A tank container is a stainless steel pressure vessel installed in a fastened external frame, mainly used for transporting liquid goods such as wine, oil, liquid food, chemicals, etc.

The liquid tank is oval or nearly spherical, with a double-layer structure. The inner wall is mostly made of 316 stainless steel, and can also be made of other rigid materials, but it needs to be coated with a layer of epoxy resin to prevent corrosion of liquid goods; the outer wall is made of insulation material to reduce heat transfer and keep the temperature inside the Tank stable. Generally, there is a circular loading port on the top of the tank and a discharge valve at the bottom of the tank to facilitate loading and unloading of goods. The frame is made of high-strength steel, the liquid tank is placed in the middle of the frame, and there are corner load-bearing frames around the tank body for protection and lifting. It can withstand various external forces during transportation and ensure the safety of the tank body.

Classification of tank Containers

  • Classification by hazard level:

The United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) and its International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) classify such tanks into IMO Type 0 to IMO Type 8. Among them, IMO 0 type is used to transport non-dangerous goods with a flash point exceeding 61°C; IMO 1 type is a dangerous goods tank container with a maximum allowable working pressure of more than 1.75 bar, which can transport liquid chemicals with a flash point below 0°C; IMO 2 type is a sub-dangerous goods tank container with a maximum allowable working pressure of more than 1.0 bar and less than 1.75 bar, which can transport liquid goods with a flash point of 0°C to 61°C and no other hazards; IMO 5 type is a liquid gas tank container, which is used to transport non-refrigerated liquefied gas or low-risk room-temperature chemicals; IMO 7 type is a refrigerated liquid gas tank container with an insulation layer, which is used to transport refrigerated liquefied gas or low-temperature liquefied gas and liquid perishable goods that require temperature control.

  • Classification by special functions:

Including baffle tanks, steam heating tanks, electric heating tanks, food-grade tanks, etc. Partition tanks can divide the tank body into multiple independent chambers for transporting different types of liquid goods; steam heating tanks and electric heating tanks are equipped with corresponding heating devices to heat the goods in the tank to meet the transportation requirements of certain special goods; food-grade tanks use materials and manufacturing processes that meet food hygiene standards to ensure that the transported food is not contaminated.

What kind of goods need tank containers Tank containers are suitable for transporting various liquids, gases and powdered goods with specific requirements. The following are some common types of goods:

Liquids

  • Food liquids: such as wine, juice, cooking oil, liquid milk, etc. These goods have high requirements for the hygiene of the transport container. The inner wall of the tank container is smooth and easy to clean, and it can provide a sealed environment to ensure the quality and safety of the food.
  • Chemical liquids: including various acids, alkalis, and salt solutions, such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide solution, etc., as well as organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, benzene, etc. Chemical liquids usually have characteristics such as corrosiveness, toxicity or flammability. Tank containers can be made of corresponding corrosion-resistant materials according to the nature of the goods, and equipped with safety devices to ensure the safety of the transportation process.
  • Petroleum and petroleum products: Crude oil, gasoline, diesel, lubricating oil and other petroleum and petroleum products are important goods transported by tank containers. They are flammable and explosive. The good sealing performance of tank containers can effectively prevent leakage and volatilization, reducing transportation risks.
  • Liquid chemicals: such as liquid fertilizers, pesticides, paints, etc. These goods need to strictly control temperature and humidity and avoid contact with other substances during transportation. Tank containers can provide a stable transportation environment to meet the special requirements of goods.

Gases

  • Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG): LPG is usually transported after being liquefied under a certain pressure. Tank containers are pressure-resistant and sealed, and can safely transport LPG.
  • Compressed natural gas (CNG): CNG is a clean fuel commonly used in automobile gas stations. Tank containers can transport CNG from the gas source to gas stations in various places, which facilitates the widespread application of CNG.
  • Other industrial gases: Industrial gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, and argon are widely used in some specific industrial fields. Tank containers can be specially designed and manufactured according to the properties of the gas to meet the transportation requirements of the gas.

Powders

  • Cement: Cement is an important material in the construction industry. Using tank containers to transport cement can achieve bulk transportation, improve transportation efficiency, and reduce dust pollution.
  • Flour: Flour is an important raw material in the food processing industry. Tank containers can ensure the quality and hygiene of flour and avoid contamination and moisture during transportation.
  • Other powdered chemical raw materials: such as plastic particles, rubber powder, etc. These powdered chemical raw materials need to be protected from dust and moisture during transportation. Tank containers can provide good sealing and moisture-proof properties to ensure the quality of goods.
